Fear or fright is a natural reaction to something which appears to be physically threatening or dangerous. When this reaction becomes so intense that it is uncontrollable and out of all proportion to the actual danger, it can cause extreme physical and emotional reaction and panic. If this happens to you it will interfere with your enjoyment of everyday life and your ability to carry out daily tasks. This type of reaction is a phobia
There are many different types of phobia, too many to list here so I have listed a few which are most common:
Agoraphobia - fear of being in a crowded or public place
Arachnophobia - fear of spiders
Aviatophobia - fear of flying
Hydrophobia - fear of water
Claustrophobia - fear of enclosed spaces
Emetophobia -fear of being sick
Coporophobia -fear of passing faeces (going to the toilet)
Clinophobia -fear of going to bed
Batophobia - fear of being close to high buildings
Gephyrophobia -fear of crossing bridges
Mysophobia -fear of dirt or germs and being contaminated
Thanatophobia - fear of dying or death
Trypanophobia -fear of injections
Musophobia -fear of mice
Phallophobia -fear of erect penis
Lots of people have phobias. Some are more unusual, but any phobia is a huge burden and will cause you a lot of distress. You will probably go to great lengths to avoid the object or experience which triggers your reaction.
Although the cause of the phobia will seem obvious, phobias are really about a fear of feeling out of control; situations which make you feel out of control will trigger a phobic reaction.
Phobias can be cured. I can help you with gentle effective therapy; help you to put experiences from the past into context, allowing you to understand events with an adult perspective. Children absorb blame and accept reponsibility for bad experiences, once you begin to let this go and feel differently about yourself the symptoms of anxiety you are experiencing will begin to disappear.
Melanie was recommended to me by a friend and I felt at ease straight away as she talked me through the process of Hypno Analysis. Not every session was easy but it was definitely worth it. Over the weeks I really got to know myself better and understood why I used to feel the way I did about simple things. I felt myself getting back to my old self and gradually began going out again and getting back to ‘Normal’.
